The Juxta Rhythm Show

Station
Twitch

Duration
2 Hours

Living a wonderfully happy life in Bristol despite my lack of funds and family around me I was swimming between the rocks and the hard places.

This dichotomy, the soft groovy souls in the hard, grey cities of the UK is the juxtaposition I often find myself considering.

Have a listen for some Jazz, R&B and some northern soul.

The Juxta Rhythm Show #2 feat. Jacob Collier

It’s not very often you bump into a Grammy-winning musical genius. So when you do, best ask them for a quick chat eh?

A sunny day on Bristol Harbour and I see a jolly Jacob Collier wandering in crocks and colourful trousers. I say “Hey Jacob, what you doing here?” He says, “I’m doing a show here…man, I like your trousers!’ “I like yours too!” I reply. “I’ve got a radio show, can I interview you for it, it’ll be 5 minutes”. After that he puts India and I on the guest list for his show at The Bristol O2 Academy promoting his album DJESSE Vol 3.

The show also features a new song from Greentea Peng, Bristol’s young stars the Sunshine Blues Band and the sultry sounds of Maxine Scott with her R&B groove, Erykah U Bad.

Modern soul, contemporary jazz, fresh psychedelia. This is the Juxta-Rhyhtm show.

After a month of sun, sea and sweaty nights I thought i’d turn the tempo down a little and really bring you a cool sound bath to get you through the heat.

Modern soul, contemporary jazz, fresh psychedelia. This is the Juxta-Rhyhtm show. Number was deleted on all platforms for sharing too much of one artist…OOothe lost episode.

My far from sober-October was a funky one.

This show reflects that with some new UK hip hop from Alex Mighten and the latest High Focus signing Renelle 893. Some habibi funk from 1970s Egypt and furious jazz from across the pond.

Around the 90″ mark we have ‘The Good Life’. We will focus on an artist from the 1970s that I think is worth raving about. In this episode, Clare Torry the vocalist on Pink Floyd’s Great Gig In The Sky.

It’s a great show with modern and vintage classics so please, dive into the Rhythm with me.

Covering for Baby Boy G on Voices Radio 8.11.23

Station
Voices

Duration
2 Hours

It’s always an honour to be asked by another DJ if you can cover their slot on the radio. Their regular show; that they’ve painstakingly created, with hard work and many Megabytes downloaded on to USB sticks.

Baby Boy G has created a great platform for London’s most exciting Hip Hop and Grime artists with his evening show on Voices. When he asked, I said yes straight away. I texted my good friend and musician, Osquello, to bless me with an interview before he left for Barcelona but he flaked. So, I dug deep on the internet in search of the ‘Mellow Grime’ sound that, for some reason, was hot on Twitter that week.

What proceeded, as you’ll hear, was my interpretation of the sound. Not just UK Grime music but anything that exemplified the beautiful crossover of aggressive rap or beats with smooth soul samples.

What a feeling it is, to bust a gun finger to smooth jazz and disco sounds.

The Sunday Soul Service on Void Radio Bristol  16.4.23

Station
Void Bristol

Duration
1 Hour

The Sunday Soul Service was supposed to be an uplifting series of shows but shortly after I recorded this at their lovely spot in the Cloak and Dagger on Bristol’s famous Gloucester Road on the A38, they shut down!

I’m glad to hear they’re back up and running. Go check them out.

This show is groovy, spanning jazz-funk, brit-funk, soul-funk: it clearly got funk. The blissful contemporary sounds from Raquel Martins, Joseph Malik, Gabriel Da Rosa, Surahn, Joel Holmes, Tenderlonious, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange and berlioz, are not to be missed.
